B.Sc. MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY

B.Sc. MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY 3 Years Degree

B.Sc. MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY

Description

B.Sc Medical Microbiology course covers the molecular and medical aspects of virology, bacteriology, immunology, and mycology to infection. The main aim of this course is to provide the scientic basis of modern microbiological and traditional concepts.

WHAT IS MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY ?

Microbiology is the study of all living organisms that are too small to be visible with the naked eye.

MICROBIOLOGY

Study of microscopic organisms. Unicellular, multicellular, or acellular. Different fields of study.

  • Virology - Study of viruses.
  • Mycology - Study of fungi.
  • Parasitology - Study of parasites, hosts and relationship.
  • Bacteriology - Study of bacteria
  • Protozoology - Study of protozoa.
  • Nematology - Study of nematodes.
  • Phycology - Study of algae.

WHY MICROBIOLOGY?
  • In the recent years, Microbiology has created a lot of buzz and gained popularity leading to a rush in the number of students who are looking forward to pursuing microbiology as a career.
  • A person who specializes in the field of microbiology is called as a microbiologist.
  • Microbiologists are regarded as scientists who play a vital role in studying organisms and infectious agents that cannot be seen with the unprotected eye.

SCOPE OF MICROBIOLOGY

MEDICINE

Disease causing ability of some microbes such as Small Pox (Variola virus) Cholera (Vibrio cholera) Malaria (Plasmodium, protozoa) etc.

They have also provided us with the means of their control in the form of antibiotics and other medically important drugs.

FOOD

Microorganisms have been used to produce food, from brewing and wine making, through cheese production and bread making, to manufacture of soy sauce. Microbes are also responsible for food spoilage.

FUTURE OF MICROBIOLOGY

Future challenges such as finding new ways to combat disease, reduce pollution and feed the world’s population. AIDS, hemorrhagic fevers and other infectious diseases Create new drugs, vaccines.

Use the techniques in molecular biology and RDNA to solve the problems Host-pathogen relationships Study the role of microorganisms as Sources of high-quality food and other practical products such as enzymes for industrial application Degrade pollutants and toxic wastes Used as vectors to treat diseases and enhance agricultural productivity.
